Police in Kitgum District have launched investigations into the suspected suicide of a Kenyan national who was found dead in Orom East Sub-county.
The deceased, identified as Fred Nkulala, was a pastor and peasant farmer living in Lobiri Village, Katwotwo Parish in Orom East Sub-county.
According to the Aswa East Regional Police spokesperson, Joe Oloya, the incident came to light on May 24 after two men went to Nkulala’s garden for casual work they had reportedly agreed upon earlier.
Upon arrival, they allegedly discovered his body hanging from a mango tree inside the garden and immediately alerted authorities.
Police at Orom Police Station registered a case of suspected suicide before a team led by the District Criminal Investigations Officer, D/ASP Mboowa Yasin, accompanied by homicide detectives and Scene of Crime officers, visited the area to examine the scene.
Investigators documented evidence before the body was taken to Kitgum General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Relatives of the deceased were said to be travelling from Kenya to witness the exercise.
By press time, police had not yet established the circumstances that may have led to the suspected suicide, with inquiries into the matter still ongoing.
