Security personnel drawn from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) have intensified investigations linked to former Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among, by extending searches to several of her properties in Bukedea District.
The operations, which entered a second day, saw investigators visit a number of establishments associated with Among, including a radio station, a school, and a teaching hospital located within the district.
Sources at the scene said the security team spent hours questioning workers and gathering information about the operations of the institutions. At Mama Bukedea FM, employees were reportedly asked to provide details about staff members working at the station and related entities.
One employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said most senior administrators were absent during the search, leaving junior workers unable to respond to many of the detectives’ questions.
“They wanted names of employees and details about the management, but most of the people they were looking for were not around,” the worker said.
Investigators are also said to have shown interest in vehicles linked to the Anita Foundation. Particular attention reportedly centered on a bus operated by Bukedea Comprehensive School, with detectives seeking clarification about its ownership and usage.
According to information gathered by reporters on the ground, authorities are examining allegations that the school bus may have previously belonged to Parliament before allegedly being transferred to the institution.
The security teams also reportedly questioned drivers attached to the foundation’s fleet, although some vehicles could not be accessed because the drivers and keys were unavailable at the time of the search.
Meanwhile, attention has also turned to Mama Bukedea FM’s broadcasting frequency of 102.1 MHz, which is said to mirror that used by FUFA FM, a radio station affiliated with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations and based in Kampala.
The latest searches follow earlier operations conducted at Among’s residence in Aputput Village in Kamutur Sub-county, her mother’s home in Kolir Sub-county, and the residence of her personal assistant, Zipporah Akol.
Security sources indicate that the investigations may extend to additional homes and properties belonging to Among’s associates within Bukedea District as authorities continue gathering information.
Among, who has represented Bukedea District as Woman Member of Parliament since 2016, remains under scrutiny amid ongoing investigations into alleged financial impropriety and corruption connected to the 11th Parliament.
