Shock and grief have gripped residents of Entebbe following the sudden death of Farooq Hussein, popularly known as Omuswahili, who is suspected to have succumbed to food poisoning after reportedly eating at a local restaurant within Entebbe International Airport.
Hussein, who worked as a truck driver under the Entebbe Airport Cargo Transporters Association, died on May 8, 2026, after developing severe health complications shortly after taking a meal at the airport premises.
According to colleagues and family members, the deceased began experiencing intense stomach pain moments after dining at the restaurant. His condition reportedly deteriorated rapidly, with witnesses saying he later started vomiting blood before collapsing.
He was rushed to Victoria Medical Centre for emergency treatment but died a few minutes after arrival.
News of his death has left fellow workers, friends, and residents in mourning, with many describing him as a humble and hardworking man dedicated to supporting his family.
As a devoted Muslim, Hussein was laid to rest on May 9, 2026, at his ancestral home in Bugiri in accordance with Islamic burial rites.
Authorities had not yet issued an official statement regarding the suspected food poisoning by press time, although calls are growing for investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.
