Christopher Okello Onyum, a 39-year-old Ugandan-born American, has been sentenced to death after being found guilty of murdering four toddlers at a daycare in early April this year in Kampala.
The sentence was delivered by Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha on Thursday, April 30, following a marathon of mobile High Court sessions held at Ggaba Community Church in Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, near the scene of the crime.
After a lengthy hearing, the judge convicted Okello on four counts of murder. Court then briefly adjourned before reconvening for sentencing, where the death penalty was handed down.
The ruling followed earlier findings that Okello was responsible for the brutal killing of the four children at the Early Childhood Development Programme Centre on April 2.
The victims, all aged under three, were Ryan Odeke, Keisha Atim Agenrwoth, Gideon Eteku, and Ignatius Sseruyange.
As the verdict and sentence were delivered, the audience at the venue broke into emotional reactions, with some members applauding the court’s decision.
