The Deputy Secretary-General of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rose Namayanja Nsereko, has urged party leaders in Kampala to intensify grassroots mobilization in preparation for the 2026 general elections.
Namayanja made the call while meeting NRM leaders from Makindye and Nakawa divisions, where she conducted a training session focused on strengthening campaign structures and harmonizing strategies for the re-election of party chairman, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
She was accompanied by several senior party figures, including Abaho Niwabine (Makindye East), Doreen Keita (Makindye West), Amina Lukanga Nanziri (Kampala Woman MP), and Nsubuga, an aspiring candidate for Kampala Lord Mayor.
The leaders pledged to work in unity to reclaim and consolidate NRM’s support in Kampala, a region that has often proved challenging for the ruling party in past elections.
They emphasized the need for coordinated voter engagement, community-based outreach, and issue-based communication to win back public confidence.
In her remarks, Namayanja commended party members who, despite losing in the primaries, chose to remain loyal to the movement instead of running as independents. She described their decision as a demonstration of maturity and commitment to party cohesion.
“We appreciate those who stood by the party even after defeat in the primaries. Such unity is what will guarantee the NRM’s continued dominance,” she said.
Namayanja also outlined the party’s new mobilisation strategy, which emphasizes a bottom-up approach.
She explained that the campaign structure will be led by NRM leaders from the village to district level, ensuring that every supporter plays a role in promoting the president’s re-election bid and other party candidates.
The meeting, held as part of the NRM’s broader national mobilisation program, is among several engagements the party leadership is conducting across the country to rejuvenate its structures and prepare for the upcoming elections.
