Mukono Municipal Mayor Elisa Mukasa Nkoyoyo has claimed he turned down three separate offers of money, including one at State House, to abandon support for Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze during past elections.
Nkoyoyo made the revelation while addressing supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) during an ongoing fundraising campaign at the party’s offices in Mukono.
He said that in one of the alleged incidents, he was offered 300 million shillings but refused to take it.
According to Nkoyoyo, the attempts to sway his allegiance were aimed at weakening Nambooze’s political standing.
“I could not betray someone I have walked with in the political journey simply because of money,” he said.
He urged political leaders to resist corruption and bribery, stressing that integrity is critical to effective leadership.
“The people deserve leaders whose interests are aligned with community needs and aspirations, not personal enrichment,” he added.
Nkoyoyo’s remarks come amid a highly competitive political atmosphere in Mukono, where Nambooze has maintained strong grassroots support despite repeated challenges from rival political camps.
