On the afternoon of August, 2, 2019, the presence of by then the Kyadondo East Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine at the funeral of former Deputy Paramount Chief of Acholi William George Lugai, angered Deputy Speaker of Parliament by then Jacob Oulanyah.
Thousands of mourners had gathered to bid farewell to the fallen Acholi Chief in Pajule Town council, Pader district, when Kyagulanyi, emerged at the function, accompanied by Joel Ssenyonyi, the spokesperson of People Power and Kilak South Member of Parliament Gilbert Olanya.
All dressed in black suits, Kyagulanyi, Ssenyonyi and Olanya’s presence excited the mourners, in a way that interrupted a speech of Jacob Oulanyah for about three minutes.
Oulanyah asked why people were cheering for someone who “gatecrashed” the funeral. “what is exciting for you? are you talking about these little children who have crossed here? Today we have come to bury the chief.” Oulannyah said, speaking in the local dialect, Acholi.
Oulanyah added that the people of Acholi were tired of fights and asked that whoever wants to start a fight should start from their home region.
“As a tribe, we passed through hardship, we went through a narrow passage, no one should incite us, no one should disturb us. If you want to start violence, start it from your home area. We are tired, lets us say it together that we are tired, take the fight elsewhere, we are tired… take it elsewhere so that Acholi can have peace,” he added.
He said that the people of Acholi had gone through a lot of troubles over the years and the least they expect is a situation that could take soldiers to the region.
By then, Kyagulanyi was spending a lot of time in Acholi Sub-region attending most of social gatherings.
