Hamida Mutesi Nalule

Residents of Seeta Bajjo in Mukono Municipality remain in deep shock following the brutal killing of Hamida Mutesi Nalule, a well-known moneylender who was fatally stabbed on Wednesday by a client who owed her 18 million Ugandan shillings.

Nalule, 35, had reportedly lent the money to 26-year-old Elvis Katabaazi last year.

Since receiving the loan, Katabaazi had made no repayments and continuously evaded all efforts by Nalule to recover the debt.

According to Racheal Namwanje, a close friend and eyewitness, Nalule had grown tired of the endless excuses and planned to involve the police or lawyers to help recover her money.

In an apparent attempt to avoid legal action, Katabaazi persuaded Nalule to accompany him to Nabuti village, claiming they would resolve the matter in the presence of the Local Council One chairperson.

Believing his sincerity, Nalule agreed and drove him in her Toyota Fielder, registration number UBR 959B.

Upon arrival in Nabuti around midday, they found the chairperson was not home. Katabaazi asked Nalule to wait.

Hours passed, and at around 5 p.m., he said he remembered where the chairperson could be found. Nalule resumed driving, heading towards Nyenje Road.

A few meters from the main road, Katabaazi allegedly turned violent, stabbing Nalule multiple times in the neck and chest with a machete.

Nalule managed to exit the car and scream for help but collapsed and died just ten meters from her vehicle.

Local residents, drawn by her cries, responded quickly. They caught Katabaazi as he attempted to escape and handed him over to the police.

Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the incident.

He said the murder weapon was recovered and Katabaazi is now in custody, facing murder charges.

He praised the community for their swift action in capturing the suspect and preventing his escape.

Police also confirmed that Katabaazi is a resident of Nabuti in Central Division, Mukono Municipality.

His identity card was found on him, and he admitted involvement in the attack.

Hamida Mutesi Nalule was widely respected in her community, known for her generosity and willingness to help others through financial support.

Her tragic death has left many residents grieving and calling for justice.

As investigations continue, police say all necessary evidence is being gathered and Katabaazi will soon be arraigned in court.

The community has pledged to stand by Nalule’s family and ensure her legacy as a hardworking and generous woman is remembered.
