Religious leaders from different faiths have expressed strong support for former State Minister for Water and Environment Ronald Kibuule, who is seeking to reclaim his seat as Member of Parliament for Mukono North County.

The clerics made their remarks during a massive thanksgiving ceremony held at Kibuule’s home on Thursday, where thousands of supporters gathered to celebrate his life after leaving Parliament and to thank God for his successful nomination.

The event, which turned into a day-long feast, saw jubilant residents dancing, eating, and drinking as they donned campaign T-shirts bearing images of President Yoweri Museveni and Kibuule.

Leading the prayers, Sheikh Abasi Ssenkuba, the Mukono District Kadhi, described Kibuule as a “unifying factor” in the constituency.

“What he has done for the people is visible,” Sheikh Ssenkuba said. “Coming in big numbers is not enough; you must confirm your love for him by voting him back into leadership with overwhelming support.”

He added a prayer for God’s protection upon Kibuule throughout the campaign and post-election period.

Bishop Enos Kagodo expressed joy over the gathering, saying the unity shown at Kibuule’s home was a testament to divine favour.

“It is great joy to converge here. I grew up near Kibuule’s village, so I am at home,” he said before leading prayers. “With Jesus on your side, this journey is already a success. If God was not with us, we would not be here again.”

Bishop Samuel Lwandasa, representing the Born-Again Faith, assured Kibuule that his political doors had been reopened.

“When God opens, no one can close. The door is open again for Kibuule,” he declared.

Representing the Greater Mukono Inter-Religious Council, Sheikh Sazir Lumala, the former Mukono District Khadhi, advised Kibuule to employ inclusive campaign strategies that also appeal to opposition supporters.

“Use proper tactics to convince people across political divides. We don’t expect fights — we thank you for conceding when you lost and for focusing positively on this new term,” Sheikh Lumala said.

He urged the electorate to vote for responsible leaders who can impact their communities and the country at large.

Kibuule: “The journey to victory has begun”

In his address, Kibuule, who was the first candidate to be nominated at the Mukono District Electoral Commission offices, thanked the religious leaders for their prayers and words of encouragement.

“With God on our side, the journey to victory has begun,” he said. “We shall continue serving our people faithfully and ensuring Mukono North gets the services it deserves.”

The former minister emphasized industrialization, youth empowerment, and improved service delivery as his key focus areas, reiterating his call for unity among residents.

As the sun set, hymns and chants of “Tukwatire ku Mukama” (Let’s hold on to God) echoed through the crowd — signaling not just a political event, but a spiritual renewal for Kibuule’s supporters in Mukono North.
