Office of the President Disowns Bulegeya Over ‘Self-Appointed’ Presidential Post

Rogers Bulegeya

The Office of the President of Uganda has distanced itself from claims that Rogers Bulegeya was appointed as a Senior Presidential Assistant on National Mobilisation, stating that no such position exists and that the alleged appointment was never made by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In a phone interview on Friday, the Secretary in the Office of the President of Uganda, Yunus Kakande, dismissed the claims as false.

“We don’t have that position and the President hasn’t appointed him,” Kakande said.

Kakande warned that falsely presenting oneself as an official from the President’s office is a criminal offence and cautioned that action could be taken if Bulegeya continues to use the title.

“Self-appointment is criminal. If he continues presenting himself as staff of the Office of the President, he will be arrested,” Kakande added.

Officials in the Human Resource department at State House of Uganda also reportedly disowned the alleged appointment, further casting doubt on Bulegeya’s claims.

Bulegeya, who serves as the chairperson of the National Resistance Movement in Masaka City, had earlier claimed that he had recently been appointed Senior Presidential Assistant on National Mobilisation.

The clarification from the President’s office comes shortly after the claims surfaced, with officials insisting that the appointment never existed and warning against the misuse of government titles.
