Mukono South parliamentary candidate and Nakisunga Sub- County LC3 chairperson, Mubarak Ssekikubo, has been further remanded to Kauga Prison until November 18, 2025, after failing to secure bail in a recruitment fraud case.
Ssekikubo appeared before Mukono Grade One Magistrate Gerald Emwogu for a ruling on his bail application.
However, the court declined his request, citing his failure to present proof of a substantive residence or documentation to support his claims of permanent abode.
Additionally, the sureties he presented lacked documents demonstrating their financial capacity, raising further concerns.
Ssekikubo presented four sureties — his wife Rose Babirye, Pastor Dickson Bwete, Christine Nalubega, a resident of Nakosi, and Richard Katanga, the LC1 chairperson.
Ssekikubo is accused of extorting money from job seekers while purporting to wield influence over the Mukono District Service Commission (DSC). He was arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
Prosecution alleges that between January and June 2025, Ssekikubo conspired with Ronald Mugerwa, the Probation Officer for Lugazi, and Dr. Saadi Wataba, the medical officer for Lugazi Municipality, to defraud Dr. George Mukisa of UGX 38 million.
The money was reportedly intended to facilitate members of the Mukono DSC to secure Mukisa a medical officer position.

While Mugerwa and Dr. Wataba were granted UGX 4 million cash bail each and UGX 10 million non-cash sureties each, Ssekikubo’s application was rejected.
This was despite the prosecution opposing bail for the co-accused, arguing that as public servants, they possessed the potential to further interfere with the community and ongoing investigations.
Dr. Wataba presented several sureties, including Dorah Musasizi, Senior Human Resource Officer for Lugazi Municipality; Jimmy Mugenyi, Senior Laboratory Technician in Buvuma; Muhamad Kinobe, Dental Surgeon at Saidina Abubakar Islamic Hospital; Sumin Nabakka, Medical Laboratory Technician with Buikwe District; his wife; and Ayub Ssebaduka, Senior Accounts Assistant in Buvuma District.
Ssekikubo will remain in custody as investigations continue and the case returns to court next week.
