The Finance, Planning and Budget Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region plays a crucial role in examining and discussing the financial plans of member parliaments across the African continent.

The committee meeting hosted by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature Speaker Hon. Nontembeko Nothemba Boyce and chaired by Asiimwe has attracted delegates from Tanzania, Nigeria and South Africa.

In his address, Hon. Asiimwe said that the meeting of the Committee holds particular importance as it sets the financial roadmap for the upcoming initiatives and activities of the Association.

“The Finance, Planning and Budget committee is central to ensuring financial independence as well as sustainable funding of various programmes as contained in the Region’s Strategic Plan,” he stated.

He encouraged the Committee to accelerate the implementation of various investment projects to realize financial independence and sustainability of the CPA Africa Region and to enable member states to initiate tailor-made capacity enhancement programmes for their branches.

The CPA Africa Region aims to promote and protect the interests and perspectives of CPA Africa Regional Parliaments and countries, into the Commonwealth and beyond. In addition, it promotes gender equality, the emancipation of women, and respect for human rights, freedoms, democracy, and good governance.

The Hon. Asiimwe led committee on Finance, Planning and Budget is particularly charged with promoting best practices in budget management, and advocating for responsible fiscal policies within the region, essentially acting as a forum for sharing knowledge and expertise on budgetary matters among African parliamentarians.
