A 44-year-old woman, Regina Nakiweewa, is nursing injuries at Kyotera Hospital after she was allegedly attacked by her father in what authorities suspect is a culmination of years of strained family relations tied to political rivalry and a disputed land arrangement in Kyotera Town Council.
The incident reportedly occurred in Mitukula Ward along Gayaza Road, where Godfrey Kaganda Kimera is alleged to have intercepted and attacked his daughter using a panga, leaving her injured before fleeing the scene.
He was reportedly accompanied by a woman identified as Ruth at the time of the incident.
Nakiweewa was later rushed to Kyotera Hospital for medical attention before reporting the matter to Kyotera Police Station, where a case was officially opened.
Police sources indicate that Kimera also reported to the police and recorded a statement regarding the incident. He was subsequently released on police bond as investigations continue. He has since declined to comment on the allegations.
Authorities say the motive is suspected to stem from a prolonged family dispute, largely revolving around land issues that have reportedly strained relations between the father and daughter over time.
Investigators further point to a contested land exchange arrangement that was previously handled through mediation at the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Apollo Mugume.
During those proceedings, Nakiweewa is said to have appeared as a witness against her father, a development believed to have deepened mistrust within the family.
The situation is also understood to be rooted in a history of political rivalry between the two.
In the 2021 local government elections, Nakiweewa contested against her father for the LC3 chairperson seat of Kasaali Town Council.
At the time, Kimera stood on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, while Nakiweewa ran as an independent candidate, turning the family contest into a highly publicised local political showdown.
Ahead of the 2026 election cycle, Nakiweewa later aligned herself with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). However, she later stepped down in favour of the party’s official candidate, who eventually won the seat. Kimera did not participate in that election.
Residents say the combination of unresolved political rivalry and ongoing land disagreements has long fuelled tension between the two, occasionally spilling into public disputes.
Police in Kyotera have not yet issued a comprehensive public statement on the incident, though investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the alleged attack.
Authorities are expected to review statements from both parties and gather witness accounts as they work to determine the full sequence of events and possible charges.
