Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, the Democratic Front–DP President General, has been duly nominated to seek re-election as Member of Parliament for Nyendo–Mukungwe Division in the 2026 general elections.
Speaking shortly after his nomination on Wednesday afternoon, Mpuuga pledged to leverage his experience and leadership to “reinvent the aspirations” of Ugandans yearning for genuine political change.
“Together with my colleagues, we are going back to our people within and beyond the Masaka sub-region to listen to their challenges and aspirations. We want to rethink how best we can deliver effective service to them,” he said.
Mpuuga emphasized that the Democratic Front (DF) is embarking on a new journey aimed at establishing a credible and visionary alternative in Uganda’s opposition politics.
“We intend to deliver a meaningful and well-thought-out political transition rather than the ritual grandstanding that has failed to meet the people’s expectations,” he added.
He also urged voters in Masaka to remain tolerant during the campaigns and to carefully scrutinize every candidate’s agenda before making their choices.
“Listen to all candidates who come before you, but be courageous enough to interrogate their plans and promises,” he advised.
In Masaka City, two other DF candidates were also nominated — Dr. Abed Bwanika, the incumbent MP for Kimanya–Kabonera Division, and Juliet Kakande Nakabuye, the City Woman MP.
Both recently crossed from the National Unity Platform (NUP) to join DF and currently serve as the party’s Treasurer General and National Women’s League leader, respectively.
Nakabuye highlighted several development projects accomplished during her current term, including the multibillion-shilling reconstruction of the Masaka Recreation Grounds, installation of new streetlights, and tarmacking of key city roads and shopping lanes. She attributed these achievements to the lobbying efforts of area MPs.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission of Uganda also nominated six other candidates to contest for parliamentary seats in Masaka City. They include:
Lubowa Ssebina Gyaviira (NUP) and Racheal Nakitende (NRM) for Nyendo–Mukungwe Division;
Patrick Kuteesa (NUP) and Robert Asiimwe (NRM) for Kimanya–Kabonera Division;
Rose Nalubowa (NUP) and Sauya Nanyonga (Independent) for the Masaka City Woman MP seat.
The nomination of Mpuuga and other DF candidates marks a significant milestone in the party’s push to consolidate its presence in the greater Masaka sub-region — a stronghold long regarded as a symbol of Uganda’s opposition politics.
