These items were donated by the National Library of Uganda and the Uganda Communications Commission.

The items including 10 (i7) desktop computers and other IT equipment are meant for Kiwangala Community Library, an initiative by COTFONE.

It is expected to enhance digital literacy, promote research, and bridge the knowledge gap for students and local residents.

“This is a game-changer for this rural community,” said Yisito Kayinga Muddu, National Coordinator of COTFONE.

For years, he added, many young people in Kiwangala and the district at-large have struggled to access digital resources.

“Now, they will have the tools to compete on an equal footing with their urban counterparts,” he added.

The Kiwangala Community Library is a hub for learners in the district, where internet access remains a challenge.

However, with the new computers, students will be able to conduct research, learn new skills, and access global educational materials.

“This initiative is not just about computers, it’s about transforming lives,” Muddu added.

In today’s world, he explained, digital literacy is essential and these computers will empower young people, women, and entrepreneurs to seize new opportunities.

Community members expressed excitement about the development, with some calling it a “dream come true.”

According to Denis Lewis Bukenya, the COTFONE’s Programs Manager, a brighter future starts with access to vital information.

Bukenya believes the donation is just the beginning of a new era for Kiwangala and Lwengo rural communities.

“The initiative aligns well with Uganda’s campaign to expand ICT infrastructure and equip rural communities with the tools to thrive in a digital world,” he said.

Sarah Birugi, a secondary school student in the area, said she hopes to improve her computer skills and explore online learning.
