Relief and excitement engulfed residents of Bujowali and surrounding areas in Njeru Municipality after the principal of St. Abel Primary School, Moret Komuhangi, who had been abducted by unknown armed men, was found alive after nearly two days in captivity.
Komuhangi, wife to businessman and community leader Rotarian Boses Taremwa, reportedly regained her freedom on Saturday under unclear circumstances.
According to sources close to the family, she was abandoned by her captors a short distance from her home in Bujowali, Naminya Division. Witnesses say three teenagers discovered her in a weak condition and helped escort her back home after she reportedly failed to walk on her own.
Her return has brought relief to family members, friends, parents, and residents who had spent days in fear and uncertainty following her disappearance.
Sources familiar with the matter claim the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of up to Shs80 million in exchange for her release. However, it remains unclear whether any money was paid to secure her freedom.
Security officials in Njeru declined to comment on reports that relatives and friends may have mobilized funds for her release. They nevertheless confirmed that Komuhangi had safely been recovered after an intensive search that lasted close to two days.
Family sources also revealed that a thanksgiving prayer service was held on Sunday afternoon to celebrate her safe return home.
The incident has heightened fear among residents of Bujowali, Mbikko, and neighboring communities amid growing concerns over increasing cases of violent crime and alleged kidnappings for ransom in the area.
Local leaders and residents are now calling on security agencies to strengthen patrols and investigations to restore public confidence and curb the rising insecurity in Njeru Municipality.
