Several senior ministers and long-serving government officials have been dropped from Cabinet in President Yoweri Museveni’s latest cabinet reshuffle.
Among the notable figures left out is Betty Amongi, the former Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, who had become one of the most visible ministers in government.
Also dropped is Evelyn Anite, the outspoken former State Minister for Investment, who rose to national prominence for her energetic defence of President Museveni and her active mobilisation within the NRM youth structures.
Former Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi, best known for sponsoring the controversial constitutional amendment that removed the presidential age limit, also missed out on the new Cabinet list.
Veteran politician Wilson Muruli Mukasa, who served as Minister for Public Service, was similarly dropped after years in government service.
In the security and diplomatic sector, retired army generals Jeje Odongo and David Muhoozi were also left out. Odongo previously served as Minister for Foreign Affairs while Muhoozi had been State Minister for Internal Affairs after serving as Chief of Defence Forces.
The reshuffle further swept away several other ministers, including First Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali, former Trade Minister Francis Mwebesa, State Minister for Sports Hamson Obua, State Minister Kenneth Omona, longtime Foreign Affairs State Minister Henry Okello Oryem, and State Minister for Primary Education Joyce Moriku Kaducu.
Others dropped include Obia Kania, Christine Adoa, Peter Lokeris, Finance Minister Matia Kasaija and Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze. Bwino Kyakulaga was also among those dropped from the new line-up.
Changes signal President Museveni’s effort to reorganise and refresh his administration as the new government settles into office.
