Two soldiers who were travelling as escorts to Senior Presidential Advisor and NRM Kayunga District Chairperson, Moses Karangwa Kalisa, are currently receiving treatment following a fatal road accident in Kayunga District.
The injured officers have been identified as Private Atukwase Prosper, 29, attached to the UPDF Engineering Brigade at Lubonge Barracks, and Private Geoffrey. The two were among three passengers injured when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned.
According to Sezibwa Region Police spokesperson Hellen Butoto, the accident occurred at Ssuka Village near the Lake Oil fuel station along the Kayunga–Jinja Highway on Sunday at around 10:40 p.m.
Butoto explained that the driver of the official Toyota Hilux, registration number UG 0101151, was travelling from Jinja to Kayunga when the vehicle collided with an unidentified motorcyclist who was joining the highway at Ssuka Village. The driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and overturn.
Karangwa and the two injured guards were rushed to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital for medical attention. While the guards remained under treatment, Karangwa was later transferred to Nakasero Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, described Karangwa as a dedicated member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), saying he would be remembered for his loyalty and service to the party.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Babalanda posted on her X account.
