Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere has stirred fresh political debate after reportedly taking to a WhatsApp platform where she claimed she was the first person to warn former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among about her speakership contest.
In the circulating messages, Nameere alleged that she advised Among that Norbert Mao was “just a shadow,” while Oboth Oboth was the preferred choice for influence in the political contest.
She further claimed that she has a personal connection with Jacobo Marksons Oboth, stating that he once contributed UGX 10 million during her introduction ceremony and even attended the event in person.
Nameere also alleged that she engaged directly with the President, who she claims confirmed that Oboth Oboth was the preferred option at the time.
According to her account, she was further told that Among could be considered for a cabinet position despite what she described as “mistakes” during her previous term as Speaker.
In the same messages, Nameere asserted that her recent release from custody was ordered by the President.
She had reportedly been detained over allegations linked to illicit dealings and what was referred to as political “overstatements,” though these claims remain unverified.
Her remarks have since sparked mixed reactions in political circles, with some analysts suggesting that her recent public statements reflect a shift in tone following her arrest.
Others argue that the episode highlights the increasingly tense and unpredictable nature of internal political messaging and alliances.
As the debate continues, observers note that Nameere’s latest comments are likely to fuel further discussion around shifting loyalties and influence within Uganda’s political landscape.
