Masaka City Woman MP, Justine Nameere’s husband, Hamza Kennedy Nsubuga, has claimed that he narrowly escaped arrest during an operation in which his wife was allegedly picked up by armed men in Masaka City.
Speaking after the incident, Nsubuga said he fled the scene moments before the operation unfolded, arguing that he had to remain safe in order to take care of their family.
“I managed to escape at the time my wife was arrested. I would have stayed and saved her, but I had to survive and take care of the children,” he said.
According to Nsubuga, Nameere, whom he referred to as “Mamito,” was allegedly taken away by men said to be UPDF soldiers travelling in a drone vehicle registration number UA 857 AG.
He claimed the incident happened at Hotel Brovad in Masaka as supporters celebrated after her swearing-in ceremony.
Nsubuga appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to intervene, saying Nameere had been a strong mobiliser for the ruling party in Masaka.
“I appeal to President Museveni because your fighter in Masaka, who worked hard to secure victory for you, has been abducted while celebrating after swearing in,” he said.
He further alleged that chaos erupted during the incident, leaving three people injured. He also claimed that Nameere’s Special Forces Command (SFC) bodyguard was disarmed while attempting to resist the operation.
Nsubuga accused police officers who had reportedly been deployed to provide security at the celebration of failing to intervene as the armed men took away his wife.
However, the Greater Masaka Regional Police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, said police had no information regarding the alleged arrest or abduction.
