The Chief Administrative Officer of Nwoya District, Jenaphar Nantume Egunyu, has been detained following a probe by the Inspectorate of Government into alleged abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds.

Nantume was reportedly picked up on Monday together with two other suspects in Nwoya District. The arrests follow investigations covering the period between January 2023 and December 2024, during which she is accused of bypassing official procedures in the establishment of animal markets.

Investigators allege that Nantume sanctioned the operation of an unauthorized livestock market in Got Okwara Village, Lungulu Sub-county—an action said to have undermined the interests of Nwoya District Local Government.

She was arrested alongside Fred Kalisa, a resident of Got Okwara Village, and Ronald Wanda, a trader from Kiyindi in Buikwe District.

The duo is accused of working in connection with the said market and allegedly diverting about 20.6 million shillings in district funds over the same period.

Confirming the development, Farouk Kayondo, deputy spokesperson of the Inspectorate of Government, confirmed that the suspects face charges of abuse of office and theft.

Kayondo noted that Nantume is accused of acting outside her mandate by ignoring established guidelines and facilitating the illegal market’s operations.

The three suspects are currently being held at Central Police Station and are expected to be arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court to answer to the charges.
