Fear and grief have engulfed Rakai District after a man went on a brutal rampage, hacking six people, killing a five-year-old boy, and leaving several others critically injured.
The Southern Region Police Spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, identified the suspect as John Kasinda, a resident of Kitayiza Village.
According to Kasirye, the shocking incident unfolded early Wednesday morning at the home of Rashid Kabugo, where Kasinda allegedly attacked Kabugo’s family.
“Kasinda horrifically hacked Kabugo’s wife and cut to death a five-year-old boy, Gabriel Tumuheki,” Kasirye said.
After the initial attack, Kasinda reportedly moved through the village, hacking four more residents before the enraged community overpowered him. The suspect was beaten to death by the mob.
Police say the injured victims were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.
Kasirye condemned the violent retaliation by the villagers, warning against acts of mob justice.
“As police, we strongly discourage mob action. Suspects should be apprehended and handed over to law enforcement for proper investigation and prosecution,” he said.
Police have since launched an investigation into the motive behind the attack.
