The National Unity Platform-NUP leaders in Kayunga have warned the National Resistance Movement Secretariat team camped in the district against the conspiracy to rig votes in the forthcoming by-election.

Charles Tebandeke, the Member of Parliament for Bbaale County asserts that they learnt that NRM set aside a huge chunk of money to corrupt voters besides printing ballots.

He also notes that they have learnt about groups of youths ferried from Kampala to create chaos so as stuff ballots into boxes. He however notes that they should get more ready since they have also mobilised a fearless team to encounter them.

“We would wish to caution you that such acts violets the election laws. I encourage the electorates to vote wisely and also offer extra support in protecting votes our candidates’ votes.” Tebandeke appeals.

NRM’s Spokesperson, Rogers Mulindwa says NUP is only creating baseless assumptions to mudsling the ruling party since it has proved standing on its core principles of patriotism, democracy, Pan-Africanism and socio-economic transformation.

“If we were a rigging party, we would have done it in the recent general elections but we lost and our candidate finished second, we never went to Court, never fought anybody and so if we have an opportunity to have a by-election, is the only reason why we are here.”

The Electoral laws forbid rigging of votes and other electoral mal-practices since they can lead nullification of elections by courts of laws.

The by-election race in Kayunga has six candidates including Andrew Muwonge for NRM, Harriet Nakwedde Kafeero (NUP), Boniface Musisi Bandikubi (Independent), Ffeffeka Jamilu Kamoga (Independent), Anthony Wadimba (DP), Majidu Nyanzi (Independent).
