The City Hall Magistrates Court has further remanded a 21-year-old woman to Luzira Prison as police continue investigating the alleged murder of former Bukoto bar waitress Jovia Namuwulya.
Patricia Rose Turindwamukama appeared before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu on Tuesday for an update on investigations into charges of murder and aggravated robbery arising from the death of Namuwulya.
State Attorney Mariam Akite told court that investigators had not yet completed their inquiries and requested additional time to conclude the case.
Magistrate Aisu subsequently adjourned the matter to October 15, 2026, for further mention.
Turindwamukama has been in custody at Luzira Prison since September 7, 2026, when she was first brought before court. Police documents describe her as self-employed and a resident of Mukalazi Zone, Bukoto I Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala.
Prosecution alleges that Turindwamukama and another suspect, who remains at large, were involved in the death of Namuwulya during the night of August 20, 2026, in Mukalazi Zone.
According to the prosecution, the two acted with malice aforethought and unlawfully caused Namuwulya’s death. Turindwamukama is also accused of participating in an aggravated robbery during the same incident.
The aggravated robbery charge is brought under Sections 266 and 267(2) of the Penal Code Act. Prosecution alleges that the suspects took Namuwulya’s iPhone 12 Pro Max, valued at Shs2 million, a cream-white bag worth Shs150,000, clothes valued at Shs200,000 and a passport bearing number B00263181.
The charge sheet further alleges that a knife, described by the prosecution as a deadly weapon, was used in connection with the alleged robbery before Namuwulya was killed.
Both murder and aggravated robbery are capital offences that fall within the jurisdiction of the High Court. As a result, the magistrates’ court can only handle the case at the mention stage pending completion of investigations and Turindwamukama’s committal to the High Court for trial.
Turindwamukama was arrested on August 24, 2026, at a friend’s residence in Mbuya, Nakawa Division, four days after the alleged killing.
Police have reportedly indicated that preliminary inquiries found that Turindwamukama had applied for an Iraqi visa on August 21, 2026, a day after the alleged incident.
However, Turindwamukama has denied any involvement in Namuwulya’s death.
In a social media narration attributed to her, Turindwamukama reportedly said she and another person had spent the night with a man who later accused Namuwulya of taking some of his money. She reportedly stated that the man subsequently went to the house where they were staying in search of the money, prompting her to leave after asking Namuwulya to return it.
The allegations against Turindwamukama have not been tested in court. She remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a competent court.
