The nomination exercise for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries is gaining momentum, with heightened activity at the party’s Electoral Commission offices in Kyadondo, Kampala.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi announced that 14 aspirants have so far been nominated unopposed and are now set to contest in the 2026 general elections.

Dr. Odoi also confirmed that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will return his nomination papers on July 4, 2025, as he seeks nomination for both party chairperson and presidential flag bearer.

Meanwhile, NRM Director for Communication Emmanuel Dombo announced that all interested candidates vying for positions on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) can begin picking nomination forms from June 26, 2025, with submissions expected between July 2 and July 4.

He confirmed that President Museveni will submit his nomination on July 4.

Among those nominated on Tuesday was Lillian Aber, the state minister for Disaster Preparedness, Relief and Refugees, who is contesting as NRM flag bearer for Kitgum District Woman MP.

Aber reaffirmed her commitment to service delivery and expressed optimism that voters would recognize her past achievements.

She welcomed competitive elections as a platform for exchanging ideas and called for peaceful campaigns while mobilizing support for President Museveni’s re-election.

Also nominated was Dr. Charles Ngabirano for Rwampara East Constituency.

He pledged to continue development programs in the area, including coffee processing, road maintenance, electricity, and water supply, and emphasized the need for sustained government support.

Ngabirano urged his supporters to avoid violence and expressed confidence in his candidacy.

In Isingiro North Constituency, King James Nkizamagara raised concerns about alleged bias by local NRM registrars, accusing them of favoring incumbent State Minister Bright Rwamirama.

He said complaints had been filed with the party’s Electoral Commission and urged the appointment of impartial officials to safeguard the integrity of the process.

Other candidates nominated include: Agnes Nandutu, former State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, contesting for Bududa District Woman MP, Fiona Nakku, for National Female Youth MP.

Also, Ronald Apuuli Tugume, for Makindye West MP, and Doreen Keita, former Deputy RCC for Kampala Central, also contesting for Makindye West MP

The nomination process is ongoing and briefly faced disruption on Tuesday morning due to heavy rain.

The NRM primaries are scheduled for July 16, 2025, and will be conducted by lining up behind candidates.
