A teacher in Iganga District is in police custody on allegations of circulating Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) papers before the start of the exams.
Abdul Mudooko, a teacher at Ibun Buz Primary School in Bugabwe Cell, Nakigo Sub-County, was reportedly caught sharing exam materials through social media platforms, including Telegram and WhatsApp.
Police say he forwarded the papers to several headteachers ahead of the examination day.
According to Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha, whistleblowers alerted authorities, leading to a swift intelligence-led operation.
“Our teams managed to trace the leaked soft copies back to Mudooko. He was found at his home actively sharing the papers with multiple people,” Kasadha said.
A search conducted at Mudooko’s residence reportedly recovered both hard and soft copies of the exam papers, which have been taken as exhibits.
The suspect is currently detained at Iganga Central Police Station and will face charges of examination malpractice and uttering false documents.
Kasadha urged pupils and parents to trust the education system and avoid shortcuts, emphasizing that exam content is based on what learners have been taught.
“Students who prepare well have no reason to fear. Cheating only undermines the future of our children,” he added.
Meanwhile, Jinja District Education Officer Eria Kisambira noted that the first day of the PLE was conducted smoothly across the region.
He praised school administrators for ensuring candidates were well-prepared and for sensitizing parents, efforts he said have contributed to curbing exam malpractice.
