The law enforcement authorities in Rwenzori West and Fort Portal East division are currently pursuing a Student patron said to have molested a 9-year-old pupil and sodomised two others at Kasisi Day and Boarding Primary School.
The facts gathered indicate that a concerned the P3 pupil reported his ordeal to his mother who informed the school authorities and later promoted police intervention.
It later emerged that the Patron- Joash Ssali, 37, a resident of Gezi village, Misindika ward, Kyenjojo Town Council, Kyenjojo District, was making sexual advances to him after molesting and defiling two other children respectively.
According to Fred Enanga, the Uganda Police Spokesperson, the three victims are already traumatised and are undergoing psycho-social support.
“We want to thank the Headteacher, for immediately reporting the matter to the police. Efforts are now in place, to trace the suspect and bring him to book after he escaped from the school and is at large,” says Enanga.
In a separate development, the police at Kiira Region and Jinja City are investigating circumstances under which a 15-year-old male juvenile, at Jinja College, was attacked by a group of students, who tied his mouth with a cloth, and his body to a bed.
The naughty students undressed the victim and pushed a stick into his anus. The grusome incident occurred on June 14, 2023.
The victim fell unconscious but was recovered late and rushed to Nile International Hospital, where the stick was removed. The victim had reported four students, involved in acts of sodomy, which led to their suspension.
‘We do strongly condemn all forms of sexual violence and torture in schools. Efforts are in place to ensure, the perpetrators are identified and held accountable for their crimes,” he says.
Police further urge all school proprietors and administrators to provide safe learning environments, to ensure the safety and security of students and the school infrastructure.
