Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) has completed investigations into a violent armed robbery case in which seven suspects are accused of stealing UGX 620 million from a forex bureau business in the city centre.
The suspects, Mulindwa Sharif, Akid Khalid alias Bombe, Kayiira Muhamed, Tamim Kawaganya, Ongom Ivan, Kasozi Ismael alias Maso, and Gizamba Ivan, are jointly facing charges of aggravated robbery contrary to Sections 266 and 267(2) of the Penal Code Act.
According to police, the group allegedly carried out the attack on March 26, 2026, at the Nkrumah Road branch of Economic Exchange Forex Bureau in Kampala District.
During the incident, the suspects are said to have intercepted a businessman and made off with a black backpack containing UGX 620 million belonging to the forex bureau.
Authorities further allege that the suspects were armed at the time of the robbery, escalating the severity of the offense.
“The accused are further alleged to have been in possession of a dangerous weapon, namely a panga, during the commission of the offense,” said Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police South.
Owoyesigyire confirmed that investigations have now been concluded, and the suspects are expected to appear before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court today for further legal proceedings.
Police have maintained that the case will proceed under aggravated robbery provisions, which carry stiff penalties upon conviction, as the suspects await trial in one of Kampala’s high-profile financial crime cases in recent months.
