A rift between Mukono Local Council (LC5) Chairperson- Rev. Bakaluba Mukasa and the top leadership of the National Unity Platform (NUP) has deepened.
This follows Bakaluba’s refusal to answer calls from the party President- Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and other party leaders.
According to the party, Bakaluba’s act is an act of insubordination which refers to defiance of authority or refusal to obey orders from superiors.
There have been reports that Bakaluba has recently demonstrated a defiant character towards the top party authorities by consistently ignoring meetings, failing to attend crucial gatherings, and refusing to answer several calls from the party president-Kyagulanyi.
Sources told this website that the defiant Reverand reportedly declined to participate in the mobilisation tour as district chairperson, despite holding the party’s ticket.
During the main rally held at Ntawo playground, Betty Nambooze, the Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, asked Kyagulanyi to grant her powers to front another candidate for the LC5 seat in the next general elections more loyal to the party.
Her request followed the introduction of all NUP district leaders who were present at the rally with Rev. Bakaluba notably absent, which prompted the attendees to question his absence.
“Your excellence, having heard the voices of the people, I humbly request your authorisation to search for and front another candidate for this position,” Nambooze appealed.
In a video recorded and shared on WhatsApp groups, Rev. Bakaluba condemned people fighting so hard to create divisions within NUP.
About the tour, he claimed waiting for Kyagulanyi and the team at Nakifuma County but unfortunately, the planned route was changed unexpectedly.
At the beginning of this month, Mukono leaders under NUP from Greater Mukono gathered at the party headquarters where Rev. Bakaluba was grilled for disrespecting the rest of the party leaders in the area as well decline to complete the formation of the district service commission.
However, a secret meeting attended by top party leaders and legislators from Mukono ended in a heated argument with Bakaluba asking where they got the audacity to challenge his leadership.
