Police in Mukono have dispersed National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters who stormed Nama Sub County headquarters, interrupting the work of technical personnel.
The supporters, mobilized by area MP Abdallah Kiwanuka, had gathered to plan the formation of constituency youth structures.
The group of youths, dressed in NUP attire, arrived at the sub-county premises and demanded access to the boardroom.
However, when the sub-county chief declined to open the boardroom, the supporters began chanting loudly, disrupting the working environment.
Kiwanuka claimed that they had permission from the sub-county chief and LC3 chairperson to hold the meeting, while the LC3 chairperson, John Bosco Isabirye, stated that they did not officially inform the police.
Kiwanuka insisted that they did not need police permission for the gathering, spearheaded by him as the area MP.
Some political observers noted that the NUP supporters might have intended to stage a stunt to attract public attention, following the repeated appearance of the former legislator in the community.
This incident comes after the NRM sub-county chairperson organized a gathering, which was attended by prominent district NRM figures, including former state minister Ronald Kibuule, who was endorsed as the sole candidate for Mukono North County on the NRM ticket.
