Police in Mukono District have arrested four suspects in connection with the brutal killing of a radiography specialist, Peter Mubiru, a case that has triggered public outrage and renewed concerns over rising violent crime in the area.
Mubiru, a medical worker attached to Happy Doctors Hospital in Seeta, was attacked on Monday evening as he returned home.
According to preliminary reports, the assailants, who were riding on a motorcycle, ambushed him in Bagala Zone, Goma Division, Mukono Municipality at around 7:00 PM.
He was struck on the head with a paver stone, sustaining severe injuries. He was first rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries the following day despite intensive medical intervention.
Following intelligence-led operations, officers from the Kampala Metropolitan Police arrested four suspects believed to have participated in the attack. The suspects have been identified as Abubaker Mususwa, Joshua Olowo, George Muyanja, and Umar Basibu.
Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrests, saying investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing and to determine whether more individuals were involved.
“We have so far arrested four suspects in connection with the murder, and investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the attack, as well as identify any other individuals who may have been involved,” Owoyesigyire said.
He added that investigators are gathering additional evidence, including forensic analysis and a postmortem report, to strengthen the case ahead of prosecution.
The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face charges of murder and aggravated assault upon completion of investigations.
The killing has sent shockwaves through Mukono, particularly among health workers and residents of Goma Division, who described Mubiru as a dedicated professional committed to saving lives.
Community members have also raised concern over the increasing cases of violent attacks, especially those involving assailants using motorcycles.
As investigations continue, police have appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist in tracking down any remaining suspects or clarifying the circumstances of the attack.
