President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Mr. Lino Anguzu as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), replacing Justice Jane Frances Abodo, who was recently elevated to the position of Principal Judge.
Mr. Anguzu, who has been serving as an Assistant DPP, brings with him years of experience in criminal justice and prosecution.
His appointment marks a key transition in the Office of the DPP, one of the most critical institutions in Uganda’s justice system responsible for instituting and conducting criminal prosecutions on behalf of the state.
Sources confirmed that the President has already forwarded Mr. Anguzu’s name to the Parliamentary Appointments Committee for vetting and approval.
Justice Abodo, his predecessor, had served as DPP since 2020 and is credited with streamlining case management and strengthening coordination between prosecutors and the police.
If approved by Parliament, Mr. Anguzu will take over the leadership of the office at a time when the prosecution service is under increasing demand to ensure speedy and fair trials, address case backlogs, and enhance public confidence in the justice system.
