The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) Armoured Division based in Kasijjagirwa, Masaka, will host the 17th Edition of the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Cup in Masaka City.
The tournament will kick off on 26th August 2025 and climax on 5th September 2025 at Masaka Secondary School Sports Grounds.
Other games will be played at Muteesa I Royal University, Ssaza Headquarters Grounds, and the Kasijjagirwa Armoured Division Grounds.
While addressing the press at Masaka Secondary School on Saturday, August 23rd, Brig. Gen. Jackson Kajuba, Deputy Commander of the Armoured Division, said the competition will run under the theme: “Physical Fitness, Combat Readiness, and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases through Sports.”
He added that the main disciplines will be football, netball, shooting (range), and tree planting.
“At least 20 teams representing different UPDF services and formations will compete. The objectives are to promote physical and mental fitness, instill discipline, strengthen command and control, and enhance military relations. The Chief Guest will be the UPDF Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba,” Brig. Gen. Kajuba noted.
Maj. Fred Nuwagaba Malegano, Political Commissar of the Armoured Division and a member of the organizing committee, emphasized that the tournament reflects the UPDF’s long-standing civil-military relations. He thanked the Masaka City leadership and community for supporting the event.
Lt. Teddy Anena, spokesperson of the Armoured Division, called on the public to attend in large numbers: “Civilians are the foundation of the revolution, and we always strive to return to them in times of need and celebration,” she said.
Maj. Nicholas Kategaya, also on the organizing committee, said football and netball matches will be free for the public, while the shooting competition will be restricted to the forces at the Kasijjagirwa Barracks.
The one-and-a-half-week tournament will bring together the four UPDF services—Land Forces, Air Force, Special Forces, and Reserve Forces—through their various formations, including:

- Mountain Division
- Field Artillery Division
- Armoured Division
- Motorised Infantry Division
- Air Force
- Magamaga Cantonment
- Special Forces Command (SFC)
- Military Police
- Kabamba Cantonment

- Bombo General Headquarters
- Engineers Brigade
The 16th Edition of the CDF Cup was hosted by the Mountain Division at Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal City.
