The International University of East Africa (IUEA) has opened applications for its January 2027 intake, highlighting its focus on practical skills, innovation and entrepreneurship as it seeks to prepare graduates for the changing demands of the global job market.
The announcement was made during the official launch of the intake at the university’s main campus in Kansanga, Kampala, which brought together university officials, students and prospective applicants.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Emeka Akaezuwa, who was the chief guest, said the university’s training model prioritises practical skills and real-world problem-solving rather than examinations alone.
“At IUEA, we produce engineers, entrepreneurs and innovators. We don’t just give degrees, we give skills for real life,” Prof. Akaezuwa said.
He said the university had integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into teaching and learning as early as 2015, adding that the approach had supported students in developing innovations, establishing businesses and competing internationally.
Prof. Akaezuwa also highlighted IUEA’s international outlook, noting that the institution attracts students from more than 40 countries. He said its global connections provide opportunities for exposure, internships and employment beyond Uganda.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr. Lakshmi Bhabu said quality education, innovation and research remain central to the university’s academic programmes, which span bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral studies.
“At IUEA, we emphasise the production of quality and innovation across bachelor’s, master’s and PhD programmes. We produce problem-solvers, ambitious graduates who can address community and global challenges,” Dr. Bhabu said.
She added that the university continues to invest in modern laboratories, research and partnerships with industry to equip students with skills relevant to the employment market.
Academic Registrar Gloria Katushabe urged Senior Six leavers, diploma holders and working professionals to apply early for the January intake.
She said the university offers accredited programmes in engineering, business, law, computing, science and technology, targeting students seeking careers in both employment and entrepreneurship.
“At IUEA, we train job creators, not job seekers,” Katushabe said.
She also highlighted the university’s Higher Education Certificate programme, which provides an alternative entry pathway for students who do not meet the principal-pass requirements for direct admission to university.
The programme is intended to help eligible students strengthen their academic qualifications and progress towards their preferred degree programmes.
Katushabe said early applicants would have an opportunity to receive career guidance and timely admission decisions, as well as consideration for available scholarships and bursaries.
Applications for the January 2027 intake are open through the university’s admissions office at its Kansanga campus and its official website, www.iuea.ac.ug.
Licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), IUEA has positioned itself as a private university offering a multicultural learning environment and industry-oriented academic programmes.
