Sedric Ssebunya a National Resistance Movement-NRM stalwart from Kizira village Kagamba Sub County in Rakai district has petitioned the party electoral commission challenging the nomination of the current LC5 Chairperson Robert Benon Mugabi.
Mugabi was nominated at the party head offices located at Kyadondo to contest for the party flag bearer at the district level. He is competing with Robert Nyondo, Samuel Kaggwa Ssekamwa and Godfrey Bhazungu for the same post.
However, Ssebunnya petitioned Dr. Tanga Odoi the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson citing flaws and inconsistencies in Mugabi’s name orders and academic documents.
According to the petition, the names appearing on the baptism card are different from those on the academic documents. The card bears Semigabi Robert while documents have Mugabi Robert Benon.
Similar irregularity is reflected on his degree transcript which does not indicate the name Benon as specified on other documents.
The petition also questions his advancement to the primary teacher’s collage without passing Mathematics and English. The requirement is that a person scores at least credits in both subjects to be enrolled.
Ssebunya demand that Dr. Tang select the right and qualified persons contest in the party primaries by cancelling Mugabi’s nomination.
Although Dr. Tang has confirmed to the Insight Post receiving the petition and studying it, Mugabi who is not moved by the petition says Ssebunya is being used by his opponents.
“You know, in such a period, many people in the political arena try many ways of failing their opponents. But I am not moved instead advise them to also proceed to court as the best option.” Mugabi says.
Once he gets selected again as the party flag bearer, Mugabi will be facing off with John Kasiiba vying for the same position as an Independent and Eriab Ssango of National Unity Platform-NUP.
