Barbara Kaija to Exit Vision Group as Sidney Miria Takes Over

Kaija and Babanga

Veteran journalist Barbara Kaija is set to leave Vision Group at the end of June 2026, bringing to a close more than three decades of service at the state-owned media organisation.

The announcement was made in an internal communication issued by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Don Wanyama, who praised Kaija for her commitment and contribution to the growth of the media house over the years.

Kaija joined Vision Group in 1992 and steadily rose through the newsroom hierarchy to become one of the most respected editors in Uganda’s media industry. During her career, she served in several senior editorial positions, including Features Editor, before eventually taking over as Editor-in-Chief following the departure of former newsroom head Els de Temmerman.

As Editor-in-Chief, Kaija played a central role in shaping editorial policy and supervising content across the company’s newspapers, television stations, radio platforms, and digital operations.

Management also confirmed the appointment of Sidney Miria Babanga as the incoming Editor-in-Chief. He will officially assume office after Kaija’s retirement.

Babanga has worked with Vision Group for more than two decades, having first joined the organisation as a freelance reporter in 2000.

Over the years, he has served in a number of editorial roles, including sub editor, Sunday Magazine Editor, Deputy Regional News Editor, Regional News Editor, and Supplements Editor. He currently works as Content Manager for Special Projects.

In his new position, Babanga will oversee editorial operations across the company’s media platforms and is expected to focus on newsroom innovation, audience growth, and strengthening digital integration.

Wanyama congratulated Babanga upon his appointment and called on staff members to support the transition, while also commending Kaija for her long-standing leadership and impact on the organisation’s editorial reputation.
