Police in Rakai district has summoned more teachers of Jauharah Islamic Education Centre primary school to record statements over indecent sexual assault of male pupils by male teachers.

The school was closed at the start of this week after it was discovered that some male teachers are involved in indecent assault of minor boys.

The disturbing news came to limelight after two boys in primary four presented with severe signs of pain whenever they could sit down in class prompting a senior female teacher to get deeply concerned about their situation.

She took them to Rakai hospital for examination and the doctor confirmed they had been sexually assaulted. Learners pointed at one of their teachers they accused of molesting them regularly.

The District Education Officer Stephen Ssemutono says the school was closed in order to safeguard the administrators and teachers from the community which had turned wild upon learning about such distressing incidents at the school.

“We have ensured that all primary seven pupils who have registered for Primary Leaving Examinations are given the opportunity to continue studying from Kamengo primary school. We have also advised parents to seek vacancies in nearby schools as police complete the investigations.” Ssemutono noted.

The Southern Region Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye confirms that the incident happened, and some teachers and directors arrested though do not willfully divulge details.

However, the Thursday New Vision reported that so far four members have been arrested in connection to the incident and also recorded statements.

It also indicated that several other schools in Rakai district have been implicated and shall be investigated according to records at the Resident District Commissioners office.

The community has called for serious supervision of private schools to completely eliminate such indecent habits.

Similar case happened at Turyagenda Foundation School in Lyantonde, a district which is close to Rakai last year.

At Turyagenda P/S three children were assaulted by their teacher identified as Joseph George Ssemwogerere. The matter is still before the High Court at Masaka pending hearing.
