Police in Mukono are investigating circumstances through which the Minister of State for Higher Education John C Muyingo’s home was broken into by unidentified people and left millions stolen.

The incident happened at the beginning of the week (Sunday), at the Minister’s home situated at Mbalala village, close to his Seeta High School campus in Nama Sub County, Mukono District.

Police from Mukono Division including the Division Police Commander, Crime Intelligence Officer, Scene of Crime Officer and the CID Chief on Monday evening visited the scene of crime to institute investigations.

Highly placed sources within the Police in Mukono told this website that the break into the Minister’s home seemed an inside job orchestrated by some of his shamba boys who are said to be on the run.

Undisclosed amount of money was taken, sources reveal that the minister instructed police to avoid making investigations and any related news open to the public but report directly to him.

This website has established that criminality cases in Mukono district are on the rise. Local leaders-LCI Chairpersons attribute increased criminalities in their areas to suspension of police posts.

In November last year, police merged 129 police posts across the country as one of the initiatives to cut costs and also improve efficiency.

In the Region of Kampala Metropolitan East where Mukono district also belongs, 28 police posts were merged.

However, village chairpersons say the move instead paved the way for petty crimes in their areas but of late they are registering serious felonies.

Foristance, the Chairperson of Ngandu Ward, Ibrahim Kitenda says last year his office registered crimes such as stealing items left outside houses and snatching telephones but this month alone, they have already registered over twenty cases of burglary involving injuring residents.

The recent incident at Ngandu happened last week where the family of Paul Nsubuga was attacked and his son, Timothy Wasswa, 23 hacked in the process.

As a result, residents have resorted to mob justice claiming receiving delayed and at times no justice.

In the months of December and January, three unidentified people were burnt to death on accusations of theft at Takajunge village in Nama Sub County. Last week, another man was burnt to death at Ngandu for stealing a motorcycle.
