24-Year-Old Remanded for Forging First Lady Signature

The Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has remanded 24-year-old Kenneth Niwamanya to Luzira prison on charges of forging the signature of First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni.

Niwamanya, a resident of Bulenga in Wakiso district, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi on Wednesday afternoon.

The court was informed that Niwamanya had sought to appoint the First Lady, who is also the Minister of Education and Sports, as the patron of his organization, Umoja Youth Initiative Development Uganda.

To facilitate this, Niwamanya allegedly forged letters bearing the scanned signature of the First Lady to solicit funds from various offices for a function at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

Niwamanya has denied the charges but was unable to secure bail due to a lack of available sureties.

His legal troubles began when he was arrested on August 22, 2024, at the Ministry of Education offices in Kampala with the forged letters.

The court has remanded Niwamanya to Luzira prison until September 23, 2024, as police investigations continue.
