Weighbridge operations have officially started on the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, with all vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes and above required to undergo mandatory weighing in line with Uganda’s road traffic regulations.
The exercise commenced on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, following a directive from the Ministry of Works and Transport under Minister Fred Byamukama.
The government says the measure is intended to strengthen enforcement of vehicle load limits and prevent overloaded trucks from damaging the expressway and other road infrastructure.
Authorities also expect the operation to contribute to improved road safety by ensuring that vehicles operating on the expressway comply with prescribed weight limits.
The Ministry said all vehicles with a gross weight of 3.5 tonnes or more must pass through the weighbridge for inspection.
Vehicles found to be overloaded will be subjected to applicable charges and other enforcement measures provided for under the law.
The commencement of the operation comes as the government steps up efforts to curb overloading, which authorities have identified as a major contributor to the deterioration of roads and other transport infrastructure.
The Ministry said enforcing load limits would help extend the lifespan of roads, reduce maintenance costs and promote safer road use.
