Wabusimba Amiri, a distinguished Ugandan journalist, public health advocate, author, and strategic communication specialist, continues to gain international recognition following his graduation at Cavendish University Uganda’s 14th graduation ceremony, held at the Commonwealth Resort, Munyonyo. The event celebrated academic excellence and the university’s mission to prepare graduates for global leadership.
Amiri earned a Second-Class Upper Degree in International Relations and Diplomatic Studies, complementing his Public Management and Leadership certificate from the Franklin Institute of Leadership (USA), Trainer of Trainers certification in Gender-Responsive Reporting and Communication from Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications (GSMC), and earlier qualifications in Journalism and Mass Communication from NIBS, alongside numerous professional certificates.
Reflecting on his journey, Amiri shared: “As the last born of my family, there were moments I thought I would not complete my degree, especially after the suspension of the USAID grant during my last semester. Yet, by the grace of Allah and with the support of many who believed in me, I made it. This degree is not only mine but belongs to every hand that supported me along the way and to all those whose livelihoods were disrupted by changes in foreign aid programs.”
Amiri’s leadership extends well beyond academia. He recently represented both Cavendish University and Uganda at the Nasser International Leadership Fellowship in Cairo, Egypt, an initiative bringing together participants from over 80 countries to advance dialogue on youth leadership, diplomacy, and governance.
With over 13 years of professional experience, Amiri has established himself as a journalist, public health advocate, and communication strategist. He is the Founder and CEO of Shanix Marketing and Media Agency Ltd, a Ugandan consultancy that promotes agricultural innovation, sustainability, and community empowerment.
His expertise in gender-responsive communication and strategic visibility campaigns positions him as a trusted advisor for public diplomacy, development communication, and multi-sectoral initiatives across Africa. Amiri also serves as Assistant CEO of Buweekula Football Club, a strong contender in Uganda’s Masaza Cup Tournament, reflecting his commitment to sports leadership, youth mentorship, and community development.
Earlier this year, Amiri strengthened his thought leadership through the launch of his book, Where Do Men Spend Their Time? at a high-profile ceremony in Cairo, Egypt. The book examines the social, cultural, and economic factors shaping men’s roles in modern society, blending rigorous research, global perspectives, and actionable insights. Its release cemented Amiri’s profile as an international author, public intellectual, and advocate for social change.
This year’s graduation theme at Cavendish University employability, entrepreneurship, and global readiness aligns with Uganda’s Vision 2040 and Africa’s human capital development agenda. Graduates like Amiri exemplify the integration of academic excellence with real-world impact, demonstrating resilience, vision, and leadership across sectors.
