Kabaka Calls for Tougher Action Against Lawlessness, Land Grabbing

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has called on the government and security agencies to take firm action against growing incidents of lawlessness, warning that mob justice and acts of vigilantism threaten peace and social stability.

Speaking during a meeting with clan heads at his palace in Mengo on Wednesday, the Kabaka condemned the increasing tendency by some individuals to take the law into their own hands and expressed sympathy for communities affected by insecurity and unlawful conduct.

“We condemn the practice of taking the law into one’s own hands. Those involved should change their ways so that peace, dignity and stability can prevail in our country,” he said.

The Kabaka said reports of violence and other unlawful acts continue to cause concern and urged the relevant authorities to strengthen law enforcement efforts to ensure justice and protect citizens.

He also voiced concern over the rising cases of land grabbing, describing land as a vital asset that sustains families and secures the welfare of future generations. He urged communities to remain vigilant and work collectively to safeguard their property.

“Protect your land and work together as communities. Unity and cooperation are essential if we are to fight poverty and secure our future,” he said.

The monarch further tasked clan leaders with intensifying efforts to preserve Buganda’s cultural heritage by passing on knowledge of the kingdom’s history, customs and traditions to younger generations.

“Our children must know their roots. We must teach them our culture, values and history so that they understand the importance of preserving our heritage,” he said.

The meeting, which brought together clan heads from across Buganda, marked the Kabaka’s first official engagement with the Abataka in recent months.

Discussions focused on challenges facing the kingdom and its clans, including security, land protection, cultural preservation and community development.

Kabaka Mutebi commended the clan leaders for their continued service and urged them to strengthen initiatives aimed at promoting unity, preserving cultural identity and improving the wellbeing of their communities.
