Ugandan businesses now have global visibility.
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has joined TMview, a European trademark search tool.
This means 79,000 Ugandan trademarks are now accessible worldwide.
Ugandan Innovators’ Win
For years, Ugandan entrepreneurs have struggled to protect their brands.
Many have lost ideas to local and foreign companies. Now, a simple online search can confirm trademark ownership.
“This boosts transparency and supports innovation,” URSB said.
What is TMview?
TMview is a free online tool that checks if a trademark is registered. It holds over 129 million trademarks from 79 countries.
Since 2010, it has handled 142 million searches. Users from Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, and the US use it the most.
Why This Matters
Ugandan brands have often been copied without credit. This change makes it harder for others to steal ideas.
“With this tool, Ugandan businesses have more protection,” said a Kampala trademark expert.
