Local leaders reported that various communities in Goma Division are facing rampant iron bar hit men threatening lives.

They claim hit men are more common in areas such Namugongo, Seeta and Sonde. Such cases are mainly attributed to unemployment among the youths and cameras within the black spots.

Rotary Club of Sonde, under the leadership of the incoming President Dr. Olaro, has considered initiating a mission to collaborate with community leaders to address issues related to dangers of engaging in criminalities and also bridging the unemployment gaps resulting in idleness.

Other key community pressing issues include limited aces to safe water, and poor road networks.

Abubaker Yawe, the Chairperson of Sonde Central, praised the Rotary Club of Sonde for its involvement in solving the community challenges.

He added that the collaboration would bring significant benefits through Rotary’s impactful projects leading to development.

” Rotarians are known for doing great things. We have already benefited from the club for the past three years, but now we hope to do more together,” Yaweh added.

David Nsalasatta, the Community Liaison Officer for the Rotary Club of Sonde, commended the leaders for attending the meeting, emphasizing that Rotary’s efforts are designed to benefit the community in short and long run.

“Rotary needs to connect with local councils and understand how the community fits in Rotary programs and also how local leaders understand Rotary. We want the leaders to assess the needs of their communities and present them to us so that we can jointly find solutions, especially those aligned with the club’s priority areas,” Mr. Nsalasatta stated.

The President-Elect Dr. Charles Olaro assured the leaders that Rotary operates within seven areas of focus set by Rotary International, many of which encompass the issues raised.

“Today we have started a journey where we will work together in the community. We shall be able to address some of these challenges in the short term, medium term, and long term. Since Rotary, like the church, is not going anywhere, we want to integrate environmental protection in every aspect of the projects we undertake,” Dr. Charles emphasized.

End.
