Do Parties Nurture Leaders or Capable Leaders Nurture Parties-Eng. Tom Isingoma Mwesiga

A man casting vote in the previous elections.

The current population of Uganda is 45,832,159 as of Wednesday, July 29, 2020, based on Worldometer elaboration of the latest United Nations data.

Out of this 45.8 million people, 17.7 million (38.6%) people have registered as voters according to the Electoral Commission (EC) in 2020.

Note that Uganda has 29 Registered Political Parties in total. This means that 17.7m people are being called upon by 29 political parties in the 2021 General Elections.

For the case of the Presidential Election, whoever will get above 50% that is over 8.85 million people, shall be considered a winner.

What’s alarming is that 36 people have shown interest in contesting on the post of the President of the Republic of Uganda 🇺🇬.

Why should a population of 17.7m people be divided into 29 parties and the same population be divided into 36 different directions for votes? Is this also democracy or misuse of democracy?

If Museveni, Besigye, Mao, and Muntu contested for the post of the president, and the people Freely Vote their candidates of choice according to their capacities without mattering about the parties of affiliation, would it be democracy or not?

Let’s say, candidate A is not having capacity but been fronted by a party I belong to, however another party I am not a member has fronted a candidate with more capacity than ours. If I vote a candidate of my party, will be a patriotic citizen?

If I vote of a capable candidate not from my party, what will then be the purpose of party system where a member votes for people they don’t politically affiliate to?

Apart from having many members in parties for votes, what do parties do towards good service delivery like roads, hospitals and electricity when the money used is jointly collected from Ugandan people and Ugandan resources?

Does it need a good political party to have a Parliament? Does it mean we must have a political party leading to have a good Professional Army?

Or we can’t have very good road network without a President from a certain political party?

Do we have schools in Uganda where members of a certain party go to study so that we agree that due the quality education from a certain party, their candidates are good?

Gen Museveni has been our President since 1986. Has his good leadership been as a result of NRM or his capacity and associates? So, do parties nurture leaders or capable leaders nurture parties?

If millions of politically myopic people vote a candidate at a certain level and wins because of numbers, will this so called democracy been a solution to the problems Uganda faces? How should we determine majority vote from genuine voters?

What is Uganda’s future towards unity, patriotism, nationalism and Pan Afrikanism if the so called democracy we think we enjoy, has made 17.7 million people divided in 29 directions?

8. If Eng. Tom Isingoma Mwesiga I suppose that strictly we embrace at most 3 political parties or else nonparty (movement) system, will I be wrong?

If I am wrong, what are the disadvantages of less than 3 political parties compared to 29 political parties towards focusing on national development?

For those encouraging tribalism during a political season, should we encourage federal government system and each tribe has its own government? And does such a system make Uganda shift any inch towards developing into a country we dream? Shall Africa be one with such bottlenecks?

About election periods. Has anyone observed that in the period of 5-year term, almost 3 years are spent in elections and by elections?

If such continues, shall the people focus on elections than entrepreneurship and working to survive in the capitalism economy?

Can’t elections be done in at most 6 months in every 5 years?

I wish you a prosperous Electoral season dear fellow Ugandans
