The Minister of State for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo, has urged young people to prioritize work before engaging in political campaigns.

According to the Electoral Commission roadmap, campaigns for Members of Parliament are scheduled to begin on Monday, November 10, 2025, and will run until January 13, 2026.

During this period, youth play a key role, with some being hired by candidates and others spending considerable time mobilizing support for politicians.

Muyingo noted that while young people have the right to participate in campaigns—either as candidates or supporters—they should first focus on their economic well-being.

“My friends, the youths, before you attend the campaigns, first work and get money. Life is good when you have money in your pocket. You see, I enjoy life because I worked hard and earned money,” Muyingo said.

The minister, known as one of the wealthiest politicians in Uganda, owns several schools, including the newly established Seeta University, among other businesses.

Muyingo, a veteran legislator for Bamunanika County, also appealed to the youth to maintain peace during the campaign and election period.

Although he did not seek nomination for the Bamunanika County parliamentary seat, Muyingo has endorsed his former aide, Dr. Robert Kiyini, as his preferred successor.

Despite retiring from elective politics, Muyingo has remained active, dedicating most of his time to campaigning for President Yoweri Museveni, Dr. Kiyini, and other NRM flag bearers, particularly in Bamunanika County.

Muyingo represented Bamunanika County in Luwero District from 2011 to 2021 before losing to his former aide, Robert Ssekitoleeko, of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Despite his electoral loss, Muyingo continues to wield significant influence in the constituency through the Bamunanika Constituency Education Fund, which supports thousands of learners in both local and national schools. He has also continued to make donations to associations, churches, schools, and health centers.
