Family to the ADF rebel leader Jamil Mukulu has attributed death of their mother Hajat Aisha Nakiyemba Lutakome to the prolonged incarceration of her son and denial to meet President Yoweri Museveni.

Nakiyemba passed on last night and laid to rest today Thursday at her marital ancestral ground at Ntooke village, Kayunga Sub-county in Kayunga District.

However, sisters to Mukulu led by Samari Nanyanzi says health condition for the deceased deteriorated when she started pleading to the government meet her son after receiving allegations that he had died in prison.  

Nakiyemba made several attempts to meet President Yoweri Museveni seek for a government pardon her son but she did not succeed. She also made attempts to access Luzira maximum prison and still failed. She says that her mother died heartbroken and severely dying to meet her son.

Sheik Abdulakim Katamba has appealed to the family member continue the good deeds of loving people serving Allah.

Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, the National Unity Platform Director for Mobilisation has castigated the government for the intended delays trials that ends up hurting innocent residents. 

He notes that besides illegal trials, the detainees are brutally tortured inside the prisons.

Mukulu is currently jailed at Luzira maximum prison on several charges at the International Crimes Division of the High Court.

Mukulu was arrested from Tanzania and extradited to Uganda in 2015 on charges of terrorism, murder, aggravated robbery, attempted murder and being a member of a terrorist group, ADF. 

He is also accused of commanding his co accused to acquire firearms, training in neighboring countries and funding for social, economic, political and religious motives. 

Prosecution alleges that Mukulu and his group raided sections of Muslim communities most of especially those they disagreed with on particular matters like where to face while conducting prayers.  

Some of those purportedly killed by Mukulu’s group are Sheikh Yunus Mandana and top Shia Cleric Daktoor Abdulqadir Muwaya who were gunned down. 

The group is also accused of attacking Bugiri Police Station where two Police Officers, Karin Tenywa and Muzamir Babale were killed.
