A wave of grief and shock has engulfed the Mukono community following the brutal murder of Godfrey Wayengera, the respected director of Beloved Daycare and Nursery School in Nsuube village.
Wayengera and his wife, Christine Najabi, were reportedly abducted on their way back from a burial in Mbale under deeply suspicious and tragic circumstances.
According to initial reports, the couple was intercepted by unidentified individuals dressed in military uniforms believed to resemble those of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
The suspects allegedly told the couple they were being escorted to Mukono Police Station, but instead diverted them to Kyungu Road, where the situation took a horrifying turn.
It was there that Godfrey Wayengera was gruesomely murdered, an act that has left the local community devastated and demanding justice.
In a shocking yet miraculous twist, Najabi (wife) was not killed but instead abandoned in Jinja Misindye, located in Goma Division.
Passersby discovered her and alerted authorities. She is currently undergoing medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
While the physical injuries are being treated, the psychological trauma of the ordeal remains profound.
Police were quick to respond to the incident, recording witness statements and transporting Wayengera’s body to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Authorities also recovered the vehicle used in the crime, a Toyota Fielder with registration number UBP 520A, from the same Jinja Misindye area where Najabi was found.
The vehicle is now in police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
At the time of this report, the suspects remain at large. Law enforcement agencies are intensifying their efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The police have called on members of the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation.
“This horrific crime has shaken the entire community. We urge anyone with credible information to assist the police in bringing the perpetrators to justice,” Patrick Onyango, the police spokesperson said.
Wayengera’s death has left a deep void not only in his family but also in the broader Mukono community, where he was known as a devoted educator, community leader, and family man.
Parents, colleagues, and students of Beloved Daycare and Nursery School have expressed deep sorrow, remembering him as a kind-hearted and committed man who was passionate about early childhood education.
As investigations continue, the community remains united in grief—and in hope that justice will prevail.
