Fire gutted Kabagarame Pork Market in Bushenyi-Isahaka Municipality.
The fire, whose cause has not yet been established started on Thursday at 10:00 pm burning most of the grass-thatched structures.
This is the third time the renowned weekly pork market has been destroyed by fire. The first incident was in 2018 and again in 2020.
Denis Enjoki, a businessman, said that the authorities should provide security to protect the market from fire since they collect revenue from traders.
Jaffar Basajjabalaba, the Bushenyi District Chairperson said that the market should be redesigned and permanent structures erected.
Martial Tumusiime, the Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson, said that the police are carrying out investigations.
Located in Ruharo ward, Bushenyi –Ishaka municipality off Bushenyi –Mbarara highway about 2km from the main road, Kabagarame pork market operates every Saturday of the week and started in 1995.
