KIBOGA, – Police in Kiboga District have launched an investigation into an attempted robbery at Stanbic Bank’s Kiboga branch after unknown suspects allegedly broke into the premises by cutting through the roof.
According to Mishael Turiyeitu, the Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, preliminary findings indicate that the suspects gained access to the bank late at night but were thwarted by the bank’s internal alarm system, which was triggered upon entry.
The bank is secured by guards from SGA Security Company. Turiyeitu revealed that prior to the incident, an unidentified person reportedly approached the guards and offered them food suspected to have been laced with coliform bacteria, causing them to fall unconscious.
“This compromised the security of the bank and gave the intruders a chance to attempt the break-in,” Turiyeitu said.
Despite breaching the premises, the suspects did not manage to steal any money. Police say no arrests have been made so far, but investigations are ongoing.
